David, Shepherd, secret king,
Was brought to Saul the king, to sing.
By killing Goliath he won fame-
His own sons he could not tame.
He sang of the wonders Jesus would do,
And during his reign, the kingdom grew.
Friend of David, son of Saul,
Noble Jonathan, who gave his all.
Mighty in battle, steadfast and loyal-
A man of the bow, and one truly royal.
Uriah, unfortunate husband of one
Bath-sheba, who brought forth Solomon.
Loyal to David, who put horns on his head-
Devoted to David, who wanted him dead.
Naboth, an Israelite who valued his life
As little as did Ahab’s wife.
In his vineyard he grew “the grapes of wrath”
Which Ahab wanted for a garden path.
Son of David, who didn’t forgive
And suffered not his brother to live.
Treacherous Absalom with beautiful hair,
His itch for the throne was his final snare. |
Solomon chose wisdom above everything-
He was the richest Israelite king.
Wise in all but choosing his wives,
He took to building heathen dives.
He constructed the temple, it is true,
But almost everything else he blew.
(Queen of Sheba)
A foreign queen heard of Solomon’s fame.
So, bringing many gifts, she came.
What she saw really blew her mind-
When she left, her spirit stayed behind.
Rehoboam, successor and son of Solomon,
Doesn’t trust folks who are over thirty-one.
He pays for his own and his father’s sins
By losing ten tribes which his servant wins.
Politically great, but religiously corrupt-
Ahab was the worst king yet.
Since on her blood, the dogs of Naboth supped,
His wife Jezebel, we really can’t forget.
The word of Eliah controlled the rain,
Ahab and Baal received his disdain.
Fed by the ravens and angels of God-
Fire, water and death all heeded his nod.
Elijah and Enoch alone did not die,
Taken by whirlwinds into the sky. |
