I Don’t Know If You Can Really Understand
by Sharon Rutherford
I don’t know if you can really
understand
Exactly what you mean to me.
You’ve always been the touch of Jesus’ hand,
Loving me, and then setting me free.
The first time I ever saw your
face
The compassion shone so brightly there.
I’d never understood God’s love and grace,
Until you loved me with His loving care.
So patiently you’ve led me
through the valley,
A place I had to go before I’d be free.
You’ve made me believe it all is true
I’ve seen His love so clearly in you.
I don’t know how you walk it
through,
The place He has called you to go.
I only know that, because I’ve known you,
I believe there’s nothing He can’t do.
You’ve been the sunlight breaking
through on a cloudy day,
When you laugh it seems the whole world’s OK.
The beauty that’s in you I see,
You’re not perfect, but that’s all right with me.
The parts that hurt will slowly
fade away,
Until only the perfect remains.
I know the price won’t be too high to pay,
The losses will be small beside the gains.
I don’t know if you can really
understand,
Exactly what you mean to me.
You’ve always been the touch of Jesus’ hand,
Loving me, and then setting me free.
