Artichokes

 many dates

Artichokes are oversize thistles, large perennial plants that wouldn’t look bad in a large flower garden. The silvery grey leaves are quite noticeable even without flowers. The flowers are spectacular, and of course best of all, you can eat them.

Pic1+2: artichoke flowers

The artichoke you buy in the store is the budding flower. Too bad you can’t have the flowers and eat them too. Once the flowers open, you can’t eat them anymore, or at least so I have been told.
