beer-battered lake perch


Breaded lake perch fillets are my latest selection from They’re not my favorite, but Marielos likes them well enough.  I prefer thicker fish for breading and deep-frying. When I eat fish, I prefer to eat fish, not mostly batter.

The recipe is simple enough. I Spanish-fried the fish in a small saucepan with 1” of oil instead of a deep-fryer. I didn't want to use a lot of oil. After frying fish the oil is imo no good for further use and needs to be thrown out.

This is what you need for 2 servings:

  • up to 2 lb. breaded fish fillets
    I discard most of the batter after frying
  • fry-cut potatoes
  • cooking oil
