fish & chips

A delicious way to eat fish. Use only nice pieces of firm white fish for this.

I can rarely get fresh fish that is suitable for this, and even then, I'll probably roast it in the oven. Frozen fish sticks is all I can find here, but those tend to be all bread & batter with very little fish inside.

This is what you need for 2 servings:

  • up to 1.5 lbs. cod fillet, thawed
or any firm white fish e.g. haddock, pollock, halibut
  • 2-4 potatoes, cut in fries
  • S&P
  • fish batter
    • 1 cup all-purpose flour
    • 1 cup corn starch
    • 1 tsp. baking powder
    • 1 cup milk
    • S&P
    • optional:
      • ½ cup dark beer
      • ½ cup sparkling water
      • 1 egg

Pic2-4: these were the best I have found so far, nice piece of fish, very thin batter

Pic5-7: a much thicker batter layer here

Pic8-10: batter is too thick, prevents the fish from cooking properly inside.
