meat pies with turkey, chicken gizzards, mango salsa

Meat pies used to be very common before refrigeration was invented. I used purchased eggroll wrappers and painted them with pumpkin sugar water to get the gloss shine on them.

I did freeze several of these, warmed them up in microwave. I loved them.

INGREDIENTS

This is what you need for 10+ servings:

chicken gizzard paste 2020-12-05
marinated turkey breast
1 pckg. egg roll wrappers
2 cups mango salsa (Sam's Club)
S&P, seasoning of your choice

Directions

Gather ingredients.

Pic6: mango salsa
Pic7: mix

Mix meat and mango salsa together.
Season to taste.

Pic8-10: egg roll wrapper

Lay out egg wrapper.
Add 1 tbsp. meat mix.
Fold double in triangle shape.
Fold the edges and run wet finger over the edges to seal.

Pic11-13: paint with sugar water

Paint the meatpies with sugar water for a nice gloss.
I used the pumpkin pilloncillo liquid because I had it in the fridge, but plain sugar water will do.
Divide leftover meat mix in ramekins for small meat loaves.

Pic14-16: bake

Bake for 30 minutes @ 350 ºF.
The sugar gloss gives the meatpies a beautiful glossy brown color.
Ramekins should be fully cooked through.
If necessary, remove meatpies and cook ramekins 15-30 minutes longer.

Pic17-19: all done

Serve and enjoy.
The eggroll wrapper / meatpie shell is thin and crisp, much nicer than when using puff pastry.
