ground beef with onions

2016-08-24 a.o.

This is the starting recipe for almost every loose-cooked ground beef recipe. Other things can be added, but the onions are almost always there. Add sauce and various condiments to get pasta sauce.

Some people start with the onions, others mix them up first and pan-fry the together.

I prefer to cook with olive oil instead of butter. You do your thing.

INGREDIENTS

This is what you need for 2 servings:

  • 1 lb. ground beef
  • up to 1 lb. onion, to taste
  • butter / cooking oil
  • S&P

b. ground beef with other vegetables

2016-05-12 a.o.

So simple, so easy and so good, this one-skillet meal. Potatoes and carrots are a popular combination, but you can add any vegetables you like.

This is moist-cooking. When you use raw potatoes, you have to stew them to get tender. Dry-cooking raw potatoes only will get you scorched raw potatoes.

INGREDIENTS

This is what you need for 4 servings:

  • 1 lb. lean ground beef
  • 1 onion, chopped
  • 2 carrots, sliced
  • 8 oz. button mushrooms
  • 1 lb. small potatoes, diced
  • S&P
  • optional:
    • 2 tbsp. flour or oil dough
    • heavy cream or half & half
    • Dijon mustard
    • parsley, chopped
