I have been composing music since I was 14. My first instrument was a harmonica then I got a guitar in 1964. I played guitar mainly for 20 years and then I learnt piano. I have had very little formal training in music and I admit to being mainly self taught. I have read many books about music theory and orchestration and I managed to acquire some knowledge of the history of music. I studied philosophy at Bedford College, London University between 1971 and 1974 and after this I went to library college in Ealing between 1975 and 1976. I have worked in many libraries including Brixton, West Norwood, The London Library and the English Library at King Faisal Air Academy in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. I worked for Amoco at their London office in a records management role for ten years but I lost my job after the company merged with BP in 1999. I had a few temp jobs after being made redundant from Amoco but after a while these dried up, so I am now semi retired though still available for work.

Music is my main hobby and I enjoy playing and singing other people's music as well as my own. I have recently started uploading videos of my songs and some covers to youtube where people can search for me as davidtuckey. I also have some downloadable mp3s on soundcloud. I enjoy listening to popular music from 1920 to the present. I am particularly keen on 1930s romantic songs and 1960s pop music, especially Glenda Collins, Joe Meek, Geoff Goddard and Helen Shapiro. Modern singers I like are YUI, Emmy the Great, Mai Kuraki, Erina Mano and Enya.

I have very catholic tastes in classical music and I especially enjoy music by Jocelyn Pook, Mahler, Massenet, Chausson and Takemitsu. I also like opera, especially Puccini and sacred choral music.

Apart from music, my main interests are philosophy (especially Plotinus and Wittgenstein), linguistics, ancient history and classical literature. Travel is another interest: I have travelled widely in Australia, South East Asia and the middle east and I want to visit Bermuda, Tahiti and Japan.
