PROJIMO

This Site is mainly about PROJIMO - Coyotitan.
There is also a PROJIMO - Duranguito: See THIS page.
PROJIMO is an organization without political or religious goals, and is not in any way connected to my "Ave Maria" website.

The original Projimo sign in Coyotitan - handmade and hand-painted - reflects the origin of Projimo.

The new sign. A sign of modern times.

PROJIMO is the Spanish word for "neighborhood."

rograma de Rehabilitacion Organizado por Jovenes Incapacitados de Mexico Occidental

=  "Rehabilitation Program Organized by Disabled Youth of Western Mexico".

PROJIMO "The Project" = The rehabilitation program and its workers.

PROJIMO "The Neighborhood" =

The small community of people who live on the PROJIMO grounds, but who do not necessarily work in  "The Project".
bullete.g. Rosita, one of the co-founders of the program almost 25 years ago, lives in the PROJIMO neighborhood, and works in the PROJIMO project.
bulletMy connection to PROJIMO: I am married to Marielos, one of the former workers in the project. We are currently living in the USA, but we still have a house in PROJIMO.

The name "PROJIMO" also refers to another important aspect of the program: Community-Based Rehabilitation (CBR.)
The project does not stand apart from the larger village community, but integrates itself with that community by means of:
local services where people from far and wide come to PROJIMO;
community activities where PROJIMO goes out into the community.

Purpose of this Site:

The purpose of these pages is to inform about the current status of the project, and to support your desire to visit proyecto PROJIMO.
Owing much to David Werner's publications, PROJIMO has been a model for CBR programs throughout the world. Many readers of David Werner's books, including myself, want to visit the project. Visitors who base their expectations on David's Werner's books alone might experience disappointment when visiting the project. The project today is not what it was when David Werner wrote his books. PROJIMO today is both more and less than what it used to be.
Check out this page:  What to expect and what NOT to expect.

What this site is NOT for:

I am NOT a spokesperson for Proyecto PROJIMO.
This WebSite is about PROJIMO, but is not PROJIMO's. Overall, I strongly support the goals and the work of Proyecto PROJIMO. The opinions expressed in these pages are my own.  My comments and reflections are based upon my personal observations of the project during the year and a half (July 2005 through January 2007) I lived there.

I hope that you will decide to come and visit PROJIMO. It can be very worthwhile, and may change your outlook on life.
