Donate Money.

Please consider donating money directly to the workers who need it most, rather than to the project.

Materials Donations.

Material donations come from a good heart, and can be very useful. Sometimes however, they can be totally useless to PROJIMO and even a nuisance to store and/or get rid of, if the materials are not appropriate for the environment that PROJIMO functions in.

For example: PROJIMO has no use for gynecological examination tables. (and yes, those have been sent!) It might be possible that PROJIMO could eventually find a destination for such equipment, but such a search effort would divert time and money from the Project's regular work.

Before you send anything, even before you start collecting anything:
Please contact PROJIMO and ASK what is most needed at that point in time.

Things that MIGHT be useful: (Please, ASK first!)

RECREATION

if in good shape:

bulletboard games, puzzles,
bullett-ball, baseball,
bulletbilliard, ping-pong, ...

Rehabilitation equipment:

bulletStanding frames, and standing equipment: pediatric + adult.

bulletWalkers: ???
bulletCrutches ???
bulletelbow crutches
bullethigh crutches
bulletCanes ???

bulletWheelchairs, MAYBE!
bulletMass-production wheelchairs (hospital / nursing home type) are NOT very helpful.
bulletThey are not strong enough to withstand the rough road conditions here.
bulletThey can sometimes be useful as a temporary chair, until a more durable chair can be made by the Project.

bulletHigh-end wheelchairs (e.g. Quickie, Levo,...), and specialty chairs (e.g. pediatric) are more suitable. If necessary, these can be adapted to the individual's needs and measurements.

bullet Electric wheelchairs and scooters.

The use of electric wheelchairs is very limited in Mexico.
Even in cities, there is little attention to accessible construction of roads and buildings. If there is no ramp to get onto the curb, or the entry into the store has a step, you are in trouble!
When there is the occasional need for an electric wheelchair, it usually is for a quadriplegic patient who has problems using a manual wheelchair. Please call and ask.

This is obviously NOT rural Mexico.

If you would like to donate a power chair, consider this alternative:
Rather than sending the chair to Mexico (at considerable expense?) sell it locally, and send the money instead.
Even if you would receive only a quarter of the original purchase price, PROJIMO will be able to build many wheelchairs with the supplies it can buy with that money!

bulletVERY USEFUL = materials to make wheelchairs (metal tubing, spare parts, casters, wheels, etc...)

bulletWheelchair cushions of all possible types and sizes.  (foam, air, gel, composite,...) Roho, Jay, ...
bulletWheelchairs can be built in PROJIMO. Good wheelchair cushions are so much harder to obtain.
