Biografia

Born in Bellinzago , son of the bell[ringer] of the local church, in 1872 he joined the Milan Conservatory , where he had among his teachers Polibio Fumagalli , Pazini Angelo , Franco Faccio and Antonio Bazzini . Here he carried out his first compositions: a ' overture , a serenade for organ and, as the rate of graduation, 23 August 1879 , a symphony .
In 1884 he won the first contest Sonzogno for acts by composers debut with Anna and Gualberto, libretto by Ferdinando Fontana , ex aequo with William Zuelli (The Fairy of the North). The two works were performed at the Teatro Manzoni in Milan on May 4 of that year.
The victory in the competition Sonzogno was a flash in the pan. From 1885 he devoted himself mainly to Mapelli teaching , covering the two chairs of harmony and counterpoint and fugue (the latter as a substitute teacher and since 1887 as a professor) at the Milan Conservatory.
His sacred melodies were published by Bertarelli, in Milan, curated by Lorenzo Perosi . Some of his motets are performed by the Chapel of the Cathedral of Milan since the time of the direction of Luciano Migliavacca, who was a great admirer.
