AMBROŽ ČOPI, composer, choral director and
teacher
Born 11 January 1973 at Šempeter near Nova Gorica, now dividing his time
between Ljubljana, Bovec and Koper. He studied composition under Prof. D.
Škerl at the Ljubljana Academy of Music, graduating in 1996 and going on to
pursue postgraduate studies in composition under Professor Uroš Rojko. He
works as a teacher and choral director in Bovec, Ljubljana and Koper (he
teaches music theory at the Koper High Grammar-Music School of Centre of
Musical Education). He was the 1995 Young Musician of the Year.
Despite his youth he already has behind him a number of successful
performances and recordings and several of his compositions have been
published. Conductors and performers regularly commission works from him. He
is known most of all as a composer of choral music. He has already had one
composition evening of his own, with another planned. He has issuing his own
author's compact disc.
