Chives are a smaller cousin of the onion family. They are a useful condiment for many recipes, adding a bit of oniony flavor without being too overpowering.

Growing chives from seeds is quite possible—that is how I started these—but you can often buy potted chives in a garden center, especially in Spring and early Summer.
