honey-glazed ham roast
2014-06-19
An entire ham for a warm meal is usually roasted or pot roasted. Often a honey glaze is applied to color the ham darker and make it sweeter. It seems to be one of those semi-obligatory items around Thanksgiving or the holly days.

This is what you need for too many servings:
-
8 lb. butt ham
-
1 cup honey
or use the glaze package that came with it
-
spices
-
Preheat the oven to 250 ºF.
-
Dilute the honey with some water until liquid.
-
Mix the honey with 1 tbsp. olive oil and the spices you wan to apply.
Salt is not needed. The ham is already salty enough.
-
Place the ham flat side down in a shallow oven-proof dish.
-
Trim off any skin.
Do not expose the meat.
-
Optional:
- Push some whole cloves into the ham.
- If no glaze, pin some pine-apple slices to the ham with toothpicks instead.
-
Pour ¼” water in the baking dish.
-
Bake at 250 ºF for about 15 min. per pound.
-
When the internal temperature reaches 130 ºF, increase heat to 425 ºF.
-
Remove the ham from the oven. Add water to the baking dish to previous ¼” level.
-
Spread half of the honey & spice mix over the ham with a brush or spatula.
-
Bake another 45 minutes, basting every 10 minutes with the drippings and more glaze.
-
Remove from the oven and rest 15 minutes before carving.
