WHITE, MAUDE VALERIE born of English parentage at Dieppe
June 23 1855 still living 1890
Composer of songs; pupil of William S Eockstro Oliver May and Sir George A
Macfarren at the Eoyal Academy of Music London where she won in 1879 the
Mendelssohn scholarship In 1881 she visited South America and spent the year
1883 in study in Vienna She is known for her graceful and melodious songs
the best of which are to words by Herrick and by Shelley One of these My
soul is an enchanted boat from Prometheus Unbound is of especial merit
