CAGNONI ANTONIO born Feb 8 1828 Godiasco in the
district of Voghera entered Milan Conservatorio in 1842 remaining until 1847
Two operas of small calibre performed in the theatre connected with
establishment but his first essay before public was with Don Bucefalo given
at Teatro Re in Milan in 1847 This opera buffi although it has kept the
stage in Italy never attained success outside its own country it was given
at the Italiens in Paris but coldly received His successive operas not been
received with uniform favour several especially among his later works been
attended by good fortune Between and 1863 he held the post of maestro di at
Vigevano and while there devoted entirely to religious music The following

Santa Maria Maggiore in Bergamo where he died April 30 1 896 M |
