born in 1913 in Milan,
Bruno Bettinelli studied at the "G. Verdi" Conservatory of Milan and later
became the teacher of composition at that consevatory, a post he maintained
for many years. Among his students there are some of the greatest Italian
composers and musicians such as Riccardo Muti, Claudio Abbado, Maurizio
Pollini, Aldo Ceccato, and Riccardo Chailly.
He has written many symphonic, choral and chamber works, receiving numerous
prizes and awards at national and international competitions.
Also noteable was his activity as a music critic.
Later in life, he dedicated himself nearly exclusively to composing
religious and secular a cappella choral works.
Bruno Bettinelli died in New York in 2004 at the age of
91. |
