Jean Nicolaas Bartholomeus, geb. Bunde 9.7.1812, overl. Roermond 13.12.1873.

In 1840 komen wij voor het eerst de naam Bartholomeus tegen en wel Johannes Nicolaas die tegen een jaarwedde van 110 gulden is aangesteld als organist en zangmeester. In zijn aanstellingsbrief lezen wij o.a. dat hij de verplichting had in alle gezongen kerkdiensten, zonder uitzondering, mee te zingen; tenminste acht jonge chorale, uit fatsoenlijk en deftige burgerstand, aan te kweken en zoveel mogelijk vokaalmuziek onder welke benaming de Amsterdamse partijmissen ook begrepen zijn, terwijl hem voorts verboden wordt om enige andere engagementen, tegen jaarlijks salaris, aan te nemen.

J.N. Bartholomeus krijgt kennelijk hulp,want in de Journal du Limburg van 3 maart 1840 wordt een oproep geplaatst voor een kosterzanger in de St.Servaaskerk. Er bevindt zich in het koorachief van O.L .Vrouwekerk (lopend tot 1850) nog muziek van J.N. Bartholomeus, Maitre de Chappelle et Organiste de L'eglise Primaire de St.Servais a Maestricht. Op 3 oktober 1865 vertrok hij naar Roermond, waar hij op 13 december 1873 overleed . Dat hij ook in Roermond niet stil gezeten heeft mag blijken uit het feit dat op 27 juli 1873 (dus enkele Maanden voor zijn dood de eerste uitvoering van de 4e Mis van J.N.Bartholomeus o.l.v Jan Willem Alphoonse Bartholomeus, in de St .Servaas te Maastricht plaats vond). Inmiddels was in 1851 Alexander Bartholomeus (welke familie van hem was) uit St.Truiden als kosterzanger aangenomen. (Jan Willem Alphonse was een zoon van J.N. Bartholomeus en Alexander een broer).
