Die Sonne sinkt, die hohen Alpen stehen
in lauter Licht und Duft und Gold und Glut;
Still ruht der See mit seiner grünen Flut,
still wird’s, als sollt ein Wunder nun geschehen.

 Und tiefes, schönes Kirchenglockenklingen
durchzittert nun das goldumfloss’ne Tal
und mahnt, beim letzten Abendsonnenstrahl
der Mutter Gottes einen Gruß zu bringen.

 Und alles betet rings mit stillem Neigen-
zu dir, Maria, Himmelskönigin.-
So schwindet leis der letzte Strahl dahin,
die letzten Glocken klingen aus und schweigen.
